NewTek NDI® PTZ1 Camera - Advanced Controls

March 15, 2018 by Rex Olson and Chuck Baker

The NewTek NDI® PTZ1 Camera is a professional remote control camera geared for live production in any environment from studio to event venue to outdoors in the field. The PTZ1 camera provides a complete set of advanced controls that allow you to optimize the camera for your production needs. Rex Olson provides a thorough tour of the configuration web page interface to the camera, which provides access to all the controls.

First up, with a simple single-cable hook-up, the PTZ camera can be remote controlled over NDI using a standard computer network to pan, tilt, and zoom the camera as well as adjust iris, focus, white balance, image processing and many other adjustments. Presets can be then be saved to the camera and recalled from the NDI Studio Monitor control panel, the configuration web page, a handheld remote, or any NDI enabled production system or application. This means you can have a ready made set of shot angles and zooms to choose from during your production, and the camera will smoothly transition between any of these during your production.

The PTZ1 also offers a multitude of camera controls that let you adjust the image quality for any production environment, in the Audio/Video Settings tab of the configuration web page. The video settings exposure controls (shown in the top image for this article) include dynamic range, gain, shutter speed, black level, gamma range and more. A full set of proc amp controls is included, as well as auto/manual white balance adjustment and focus/autofocus controls. Audio controls include the ability to enable and disable audio, Mic or Line level selection, and input volume.
