How to Connect TriCaster® TC1 Long Panel Control Surface

May 16, 2018 by Richard Evans and Chuck Baker

TriCaster® TC1 is an all-IP video production system - the components all use a standard Ethernet local network to connect to each other instead of the dedicated component-to-component cabling of the past, including abandoning the heavy and expensive baseband cabling between video components. Components that need to send video streams to one another do so using NewTek’s royalty-free NDI® technology for bi-directional transport of video, audio, metadata and communications over standard networks.

In this video, trainer Richard Evans shows the steps needed to add the TriCaster TC1LP  Control Panel to a TriCaster TC1. The minimum required network infrastructure is a gigabit network router with DHCP enabled. On a network with DHCP available, a standard network switch can be used for the suite of components.

  • Connect the TriCaster TC1 to the network, to power, and boot up

  • Connect the TriCaster TC1LP to the network and power

  • In the TriCaster UI, go to Add-ons, click on “NewTek Control Surfaces”

  • In the NewTek Control Surfaces panel, Click on “Refresh”

The TC1LP control surface should show up, and will be automatically configured for use with the TriCaster TC1.

If the TC1LP does not show up, you may need to turn off the local firewalls on the TriCaster system.

  • From the TriCaster’s Administrative menu screen, select “Exit to Windows”

  • If you have the Windows Search option on the taskbar as shown in the video, click it and search for “Windows firewall with advanced security”; otherwise, you may need to right-click the Windows Start icon, and select the Search option to do the search

  • Depending on the version of Windows present on your TriCaster TC1, you will either have the app Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, as shown in the video, or Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security, as shown in the image above. Open the app

  • Click on the Properties option in either of the two locations where it appears to open the Properties panel

  • Turn off the firewalls

  • Return to the TriCaster application and repeat the steps to configure the TC1LP

Once the TC1LP is showing up in the list of control surfaces and you can select it for use with the TriCaster TC1, test the control surface to see that it is now controlling your TriCaster TC1.
