A First Look at NewTek NDI® PTZ Camera
September 09, 2017 by Chuck Baker
Faraz Ahmed of AmiTrace Computer Systems provides a brief tour of the NewTek NDI® PTZ Camera features and connections, and puts it to work just a couple of minutes out of the box. Since the video, audio, control, tally and power all are available over Ethernet, just one cable puts the camera into full operation for production, and the NDI discovery function makes it instantly visible to the TriCaster® TC1 that Faraz is working with. With a couple of menu pulldowns and mouse clicks, he has the camera assigned to one of the TriCaster inputs, and showing on Preview and Program outputs.
Faraz then plugs the SDI port of the camera to a physical 3G SDI input on the TriCaster TC1, and compares the timing and quality of the SDI signal from the camera versus the NDI signal going over Ethernet. The result: the quality is the same and the video is in sync, with no noticeable latency between the SDI signal and the NDI signal.
The takeaway: NDI makes the NewTek NDI PTZ camera truly plug-and-play, and users can put it into service one minute out of the box with one Ethernet cable, from anywhere on the local network.
