Interview with Key Code Media's Michael Kammes and NewTek's Rex Olson at SMPTE 2016
November 07, 2016 by Chuck Baker
Broadcast Beat’s Ryan Salazar sat down with Rex Olson, VP of marketing programs for NewTek, and Michael Kammes, director of technology at Key Code Media for an in-depth discussion of NewTek’s Network Device Interface (NDI®), a technology that is bringing bi-directional IP workflow to video production. NDI’s impact is not only present across NewTek’s product line in the TriCaster, TriCaster Advanced Edition, and the NewTek IP series production systems, but also products from hundreds of manufacturers that are now the hands of millions of users. The new level of capabilities contained in the NewTek IP Series, with hybrid IP/SDI workflow and modular, scalable design, are covered as well.
The conversation also ranged into the capabilities in NewTek production systems for automation, with a command system that makes complex sequences of operations into one button push for an operator. Other capabilities of TriCaster Advanced Edition, including augmented reality, new compositing engine, and more, are also discussed. Ryan, Michael, and Rex also provided an overview of the capabilities for any workflow of NewTek Connect, Telestrator, and other new NDI applications, all of which operate within a standard gigabit ethernet network.
