Production Truck Doubles as Event Response Communications Vehicle
Cities of America take note! Some townships ensure that emergency responders maintain communications during a disaster by procuring an Event Response Communications Vehicle (ERC-V). However, an ERC-V is an expensive taxpayer investment that sits idle most of the time.
When authorities in Huntsville, Alabama debated the pros and cons of purchasing an ERC-V after a devasting tornado left communication lines down for a week, an innovative manager for the school district proposed combining the project with a planned production truck, using new low-cost but powerful production and communications technologies.
The result? Both purposes were achieved with great economy, and the dual-purpose vehicle is a busy full-time resource generating video content for the community.
“Considering the high-quality live programming we’re able to stream and broadcast, this truck has become a vital link between our school system and community. It’s not only proven to be very cost-effective, it’s also a valuable resource that can promote better public safety,” says Jonathan Crowe of Huntsville city schools.
